Register for a Spring ensemble.

Ensemble experience helps you hone your rhythmic and listening skills, encourages teamwork and demands collaboration. You'll find ensemble participation to be one of the most rewarding and valuable aspects of music study. We have groups for beginners as well as more experienced musicians.

Each year, NMS puts together over 100 instrumental, vocal and dance ensembles for youth and adults — all of which are showcased in a semi-annual festival of ensemble recitals. NMS will work with any interested person to create an ensemble by matching students' interests, abilities, instruments or voice parts and availability.

The Ensemble Program also features several “play-ins,” which not only give instrumentalists a chance to play with many other musicians, but also exposes them to various musical styles and eras. Play-ins are open to the public and often free of charge. Watch for announcements in our Calendar & Events listings.

Each year, NMS sponsors select Premier Ensembles (e.g., woodwind or string quartet, brass quintet, piano trio, jazz combo) that will be on call throughout the year to officially represent NMS in community performances. Placement is by audition. Auditions are held each June for the following school year. There is no ensemble charge for participation in these groups, although students not currently taking individual instruction at NMS pay a registration fee.
