Presenting Sponsor of the NMS Centennial Celebration
First Niagara
The NMS Centennial Ball took party-goers on a journey through the last 100 years of NMS. We celebrated the music, dance and drama of the last century and the teaching artists, students and alumni who are at the center of the NMS story. And we celebrated all the individuals who have helped us to make a deep and lasting impact on thousands of students and their families these last 100 years.
Venue: The Centennial Ball was held at the beautiful New Haven Lawn Club, 193 Whitney Avenue, New Haven. The venue holds approximately 250 guests and will be decorated with the tradition of richness and warmth the Club is known to create throughout the holidays.
Key Features:
• Black tie event
• Cocktail party with a cast of live ”street performers,” light cocktail fare, and complimentary bar service
• Live, interactive performances with a group performance in the Ballroom, followed by a brief special program providing information and the opportunity to support the scholarship/financial aid program at NMS.
• An elaborate Italian-themed dinner and your choice of live dinner music
• Glorious Italian desserts and coffee, live dance tunes and the splendid halls of the Lawn Club’s holiday display
Centennial Ball Program
Throughout the cocktail portion of the evening guests enncountered various “street performers” from the NMS community of artists. Teaching artists, students and alumni delighted guests with each unexpected encounter.
Fund the Future
Our goal: to raise as much scholarship funding as possible!
NMS scholarship/financial aid is a key area of focus for fundraising in this Centennial year. Not only do we seek to sustain our commitment to students currently receiving financial aid, but also we seek to increase the pool of funding so that we can include an even larger group of students in NMS programs. This includes an increase in our collaborations with schools, particularly the New Haven Public School system.
Early in the evening, our performers and a few special guests including professional auctioneer, Kathy Kingston, took a very short pause (we promise!) with an invitation to guests to support Scholarships at Neighborhood Music School. The goal was to raise as much money as possible to support these critical programs.
Contributions of all sizes were welcome to support our scholarship/financial aid program.
Dinner Entertainment
Guests chose from three dinner entertainment options, or explore each space and the delightful performances of NMS teaching artists.
• NMS String Quartet in the Lawn Club Lounge. Four of Neighborhood Music School's brilliant string faculty members take the stage. Tables in the Lounge will seat 10.
• Gaslight Jazz Band (classic jazz) in the Main Dining Room. Be a part of the hottest jazz café in New Haven. You’ll fall in love with Sarah LeMieux, NMS faculty member and one of the city’s hottest young jazz/blues artists. Tables in the Main Dining Room will seat six.
• Conga Bop (Latin jazz) in the Lawn Club Ballroom. We’ll turn the room up-side-down with the Latin-jazz sounds of this five-piece powerhouse, led by NMS faculty member Chris Herbert. Tables in the Ballroom will seat 10.
Attire
Centennial Celebrations don’t happen every day; break out those bowties and tails. For the boldest of our family, we challenged guests to come in formal wear from their favorite decade of the last century.
